Telehealth FAQ

What do I need for a telehealth visit?
All you need is a device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop), a stable internet connection, and a quiet, well-lit space. No app downloads required — everything runs in your web browser.
Is telehealth secure and HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Our telehealth platform uses end-to-end encryption and is fully HIPAA compliant with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Your child's health information is protected at the same level as an in-person visit.
Does my insurance cover telehealth visits?
Most major insurance plans cover telehealth at the same rate as in-person visits. We accept Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Anthem, United Healthcare, HealthNet, Molina, MediCal, Tricare, and more. Call our office to verify your coverage.
Who can use telehealth?
Telehealth is available for established patients of American Pediatrics. New patients should schedule an in-person visit first. A parent or legal guardian must be present during the video visit for patients under 18.
What if I have technical issues?
Try refreshing your browser or switching to a different device. If problems persist, call your local office directly and we'll assist you or reschedule your visit.
Can prescriptions be written during a telehealth visit?
Yes. Our providers can prescribe medications electronically during a telehealth visit. The prescription is sent directly to your preferred pharmacy. Some controlled substances may require an in-person visit per California regulations.
